Have You Ever Had MacBook Envy?
Apple’s marketing is strong. I’d be lying if I said I haven’t wondered for a long time if having a MacBook would be better than a Windows laptop.
I finally took the plunge with a MacBook Air. Not for vanity; I needed to build iOS apps and didn’t want to use a cloud provider.
The MacBook Air looks great, and the trackpad is the best I’ve ever used. But from a software development perspective, the pros end there.
The dev stack for my side projects is Angular, .NET Core and MSSQL. Getting that stack running on macOS was far more painful than it should’ve been.
So I say:
If all you need is a browser, and have got money to throw around, go for a MacBook.
If you want to develop software without setup headaches, go for a Surface Book.
